If you're anything like me, you have gorgeous pieces of fabric somewhere that you would love to use but you don't want to cut them up. Maybe the pieces have meaning for you - pieces of a dress, a special tea towel, a fat quarter bought somewhere special.
What about a napkin set for a table that feels special and personal ?
Enter the rolled hem. The rolled hem is a steady, grounding stitch. Its quiet repetition gives you time to slow down, to set your outer table with cloth, and your inner table with presence. You may leave with a small set of napkins, or simply enjoy the rhythm and thoughtfulness of the stitch. Either way, the value is in the practice: preparing with care, both for yourself and for those you gather with.
Cotton or linen fabric cut into squares (any size, any number, but plan on only as many as you think you can finish). We are particular to voile or linen, or scraps that mean something to you. But also: using what you have on hand is wonderful. Fat quarters are ideal.
Embroidery floss or sewing thread (neutral or festive colors)
Needles (embroidery or sharp hand-sewing needle)
Scissors (small and sharp if possible)
